Volunteers from two Baptist churches in west Alabama played a key role in jump-starting Lake Kirkley Ministries, a retreat center in Fayette County that provides meeting and activity space for churches and charitable organizations as well as several foster-care homes for children.
About 50 members of Grant’s Creek Baptist Church, Fosters, in Tuscaloosa Baptist Association spent a week in April starting construction work on three small houses overlooking the lake, enhancing a landmark near the entrance and doing other projects on the property. The theme of the week, one of Grant’s Creek Baptist’s missions trips for 2009, was “To Fayette With Love.”
The official ground breaking for Lake Kirkley was held in April in conjunction with the spring revival at Calvary Baptist Church, Fayette, in Pickens Baptist Association, which also helped with starter projects at the ministry.
