Claude Thomas declines position at Southwestern

FORT WORTH, Texas — Claude Thomas, the former pastor of First Baptist Church, Euless, Texas, announced Oct. 18 that he has declined an invitation to become special assistant to the president at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Thomas had announced Sept. 26 that he was taking the position.

“Upon more mature reflection, I am not certain that this move is best for my family or for the seminary at this particular time,” Thomas said in a statement.

Southwestern President Paige Patterson expressed support for Thomas’ decision, but said he was disappointed.
