Recognizing a need to reach its “Jerusalem,” Clay Baptist Association partnered with The Baptist Center in Lineville to provide more than $1,000 worth of school supplies to children in need.
The center is a self-sustaining ministry that provides for the needs of community members through its thrift store and provisional ministries, and its profits contribute to the missions efforts of Clay Association.
“We feel like our mission in Clay County is helping our own (area), and we thought it would be the Christian thing to do,” said L.C. Harris, moderator for Clay Association. “We had money for missions and wanted to help the underprivileged in our area, and we unanimously agreed on it.”
Because of the help of the center and the association, children at Ashland elementary and high schools and Lineville elementary and high schools had access to the supplies they need to further their education. The supplies — backpacks, scissors, glue, paper, notebooks and pencils — were made available at the commencement of the school year. “It’s following the call to go to Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria and all parts of the world,” Harris said. “Not that we don’t help other places, but I don’t know how it would look if we went outside to help other things and left those of our own lacking.”
