An enthusiastic crowd of approximately 200 senior adults recently met for lunch in the fellowship hall of First Baptist Church, Elba. Coordinated by the Coffee Baptist Association’s senior adult committee, the luncheon was a time of food, fellowship and fun.
Entertainment was provided by Goodman Baptist Church; Westside Baptist Church, Elba; and Zion Chapel Baptist Church. Travis Johnson, interim pastor of First, Elba, led the group in hymns.
Coffee Association — led by Director of Missions John Granger — hosts a senior adult event at one of its member churches every quarter. The senior adult committee was formed in 2006 and is composed of three members: Shirley Holland, Elizabeth Lindsey and Martha Davis. Holland, a retired Enterprise schoolteacher, chairs the committee.
At each event, lunch is served and a speaker or entertainment is provided. Average attendance ranges from 150 to 200 people.
Travel opportunities for senior adults are also provided through the association. Past destinations have included Branson, Mo.; Orlando, Fla.; and the Holy Land. A trip to Savannah, Ga., is planned for May.
"The spirit has been one of unity and real belonging," said Kaye Clark, public relations coordinator for Coffee Association. "New friends are made that continue past the luncheons and trips."
The next quarterly meeting will be a two-day event at Open Door Baptist Church, Enterprise, beginning April 21 with a Bible study on the Holy Spirit taught by Henry Lyons. A luncheon the next day will feature Lyons as guest speaker.
