Benjamin Coghlan (right), a member of Montgomery Hill Baptist Church, Stockton, received the 2003 Hosea Holcombe Award from the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission (ABHC).
Frances Hamilton, executive director of the ABHC, presented the award certificate and $300 to Coghlan Nov. 19 during the state convention annual meeting in Mobile. The Holcombe award is part of a historical research and writing initiative that high school students may enter.
Coghlan wrote his project about his church, which is in Baldwin Baptist Association and is one of the oldest Baptist churches in Alabama.
The Thomas Shoemaker Award, a similar award for college students, went to John Anderson, a student at Yale Divinity School. (TAB)
