Construction of a church and religious tourism site in Indonesia have been halted due to opposition from several sources.
Morning Star News reported construction of Immanuel Christian Church and the Holyland Bukit Doa religious tourism compound of Indonesia Bethel Church were halted Sept. 2 in Karangturi village in Indonesia’s Central Java Province.

In a letter, Karanganyar Regency said construction was being suspended because the project could create social conflict, Morning Star stated, quoting SoloBalapan.com. When the issues are resolved, construction could continue.
Regency council members claim the project is not consistent with building permit guidelines, Morning Star reported.
Local officials and several groups — some Muslim or Islamist — objected to construction of a “Holy Land” prayer park and claimed residents did not have input into development plans.
Morning Star noted various Muslim groups called construction of the church and prayer park a “disaster” for Muslims.
The Regency had, as recently as Aug. 26, shown support for the park, Morning Star said.
