Cookbook has Ozark seniors ‘Aging Gracefully’

The senior adult ministry of Logan Road Baptist Church, Ozark, in Dale Baptist Association has published a cookbook titled “Aging Gracefully.” Filled with more than 500 recipes, it is largely composed of contributors’ favorites from days gone by.

“We all just dug a little deep and came up with recipes we loved when we were kids,” said cookbook committee member Diane Kautz.
The senior adult ministry is a relatively new addition to Logan Road Baptist, where Charles Goldsmith is pastor. The ministry started after member Debra Ray expressed a burden for older adults during a churchwide strategy session.

Concerned that many senior adults live on limited incomes, Ray and Kautz set about finding ways to offset expenses for anyone wanting to participate in the ministry’s activities. After hearing of another church’s success compiling and selling a cookbook, Ray, Kautz and the senior adult women of the church decided to give it a try.
So far, Kautz said sales of “Aging Gracefully” have been good. The proceeds will help finance activities such as luncheons, day trips and overnight excursions.

“We love getting together as a group and getting to know each other better,” Kautz said. “And we try to have a good time.”

In addition to recipes, the cookbook contains helpful hints as well as a section outlining the ABCs of becoming a Christian, because “we don’t know who we might touch,” Kautz said.
