Cooperative Program giving behind 2009 pace

NASHVILLE — Year-to-date contributions through the Southern Baptist Convention’s (SBC) Cooperative Program (CP) are 3.70 percent below the same time frame last year, according to a news release from SBC Executive Committee President and Chief Executive Officer Morris H. Chapman. As of Aug. 31, the year-to-date total of $178,218,414.00 for CP missions is $6,850,782.66 behind the $185,069,196.66 received at the end of August 2009. Designated giving of $187,308,389.00 for the same year-to-date period is 0.86 percent, or $1,619,413.65, behind gifts of $188,927,802.65 received at this point last year. Monthly CP receipts totaled $16,478,198.68 while designated gifts received last month amounted to $5,373,608.95.

Month-to-month swings reflect a number of factors but largely result from the timing of receipts from state conventions. The end-of-month total represents money received by close of business on the last business day of each month. For the SBC CP Allocation Budget, the year-to-date total of $178,218,414.00 is 95.12 percent of the $187,353,459.91 budgeted to support Southern Baptist ministries globally and across North America. The SBC operates on an Oct. 1–Sept. 30 fiscal year.
