Cottage Hill calls pastor

Members of Cottage Hill Baptist Church, Mobile, ended almost 40 months without a pastor when they invited R. Allan Lockerman to serve as their new pastor June 18.

Currently senior pastor of First Baptist Church, Cleveland, Tenn., where he has served for eight years, Lockerman said he hopes to assume duties at Cottage Hill Aug. 6. He succeeds Fred Wolfe, who left Cottage Hill Feb. 2, 1997.

Church members voted 1,875 to 6 to call Lockerman as pastor. Roy Fish of Fort Worth, Texas, has been serving as interim pastor of Cottage Hill.

A graduate of the University of Georgia, New Orleans Seminary and Southern Seminary in Louisville, Ky., Lockerman is a member of the executive board of the Tennessee Baptist State Convention.

Lockerman, 46, told church members he does not have an agenda for Cottage Hill, but plans to let God lead the church.

“The only plan I have is I plan to pray a whole lot,” Lockerman said. “God’s plan is always better than your plan.”

He told the congregation it should not consider its best days behind it.

“I have no desire to recapture your past,” he said.

Lockerman and his wife, Alice, have three children, Rob, Jeff and Jennifer. (TAB)
