“For 25 years, the gospel has been proclaimed at [Cottonton Baptist Church (CBC)]. Lives have been changed as a result of this faithfulness to God’s Word.
“For 25 years, members have given to the Lord through CBC and people have been helped,” the church program stated Oct. 12 as the 150-member Russell Baptist Association congregation celebrated its 25th anniversary.
More than 80 people gathered that day to hear preaching by former pastor Sam Allen and special singing and to recognize charter members.
During the service, the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission presented Cottonton Baptist with a plaque commemorating its milestone and Jean Sult, church historian and charter member, presented the church history.
Through the years since the 49 charter members first met in 1983, Cottonton Baptist has ordained 15 deacons, faithfully given to missions and “always” conducted a summer Vacation Bible School (VBS) program, according to Sult’s research.
The church also ordained its first minister in 2000 and sent its first missions group to Buras, La., in 2005 to conduct VBS there.
Following the service, attendees continued celebrating and sharing memories with a lunch in the fellowship hall.
Pastor Wesley Price hopes the church will continue to glorify God in all it does in the future.
“I pray we will follow God’s will at all times and trust Him to give us the passion and desire to do His work in Cottonton, Ala., and the surrounding area,” he said.
