Union Hill Baptist Church, Cottonwood, recently celebrated 125 years with a special service marking its history.
According to Pastor Rob Lightsey, about 150 were in attendance for the day’s festivities.
Lightsey served as master of ceremonies, and Bobby DuBois, associate executive director of the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions, delivered the main message.
Also featured was historian Scotty E. Kirkland’s presentation titled “The Little Church on the Hill,” profiling the Columbia Baptist Association church’s history.
A 125th anniversary booklet of Kirkland’s historical work was passed out to attendees.
A representative of the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission presented the congregation with a certificate commemorating the anniversary.
“The whole service from top to bottom was good, and God was honored in what we did that day, I believe,” Lightsey said.
Following the service were a covered-dish dinner on the grounds and a special singing by The Mount Gilead Quartet.
“I believe that we’re moving forward, we’re moving in a good direction,” Lightsey said of the church. “Our people our eager to serve. Our motto is ‘Loving God, Loving People, Serving the World,’ and that’s what we’re trying to hang on to.”
