Days after Country Crossing paid Houston County a reported $1.7 million to operate more than 1,700 electronic bingo gambling machines in 2010, county officials thwarted a raid by Governor Bob Riley’s Task Force on Illegal Gambling.
According to the Dothan Eagle, “Country Crossing officials shut the doors on the $87 million project” Jan. 5, just before the Task Force was to conduct a raid, with an expected confiscation of 1,710 machines.
Then, at 1:30 a.m. Jan. 5, Circuit Court Judge P.B. McLauchlin issued a restraining order against the task force as requested by Houston County Commission Chairman Mark Culver and Country Crossing officials. (TAB)
