Oak Level Baptist Church, Cullman, celebrated its centennial Aug. 18 beginning with a 10:30 a.m. service.
The church choir sang and the son of a church member read a poem he wrote about Oak Level Baptist that was initially read at the church’s decoration service in June. “It was really nice,” Pastor Etsel Riddle said of the reading.
Nancy Beasley, representative from the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission, presented a plaque to the church to commemorate its 100 years, and both East Cullman Baptist Association and the Cullman Historical Society presented plaques as well. There also was a presentation of a certificate from the Alabama House of Representatives.
In addition, people shared remembrances about Oak Level, including Lillian Keese, 91, the oldest member of the church.
A video presentation of photos submitted by the congregation also was featured, titled “The 100th Celebration.”
Riddle spoke to the congregation and lunch followed the service. There were 109 people in attendance for the celebration, he noted.
