Davis, John C.

John C. Davis, a former Alabama Baptist pastor, died Aug. 16. He was 71.

A native of Selma, Davis received degrees from Samford University in Birmingham and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

He was ordained into the ministry at Northside Baptist Church, Selma, and spent 45 years in the ministry. Davis served as pastor of New Hope Baptist Church, Orrville; West End Baptist Church, Selma; Valleydale Baptist Church, Birmingham; Bellevue Baptist Church, Birmingham; Corinth Heights Baptist Church, Haleyville; and Dwight Baptist Church, Gadsden.

He also served churches in Louisiana and as interim pastor of several churches after his retirement. His most recent interim pastorate was at First Baptist Church, Jemison, where he served until April.

Davis held positions in Winston, Birmingham, Etowah and Selma Baptist associations. He also served on the board of the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions from 1985 to 1987.

Davis is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mattie; two children; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. (TAB)
