Q: What was your childhood like?
A: I was the baby of 13 children. We were not dirt poor but relatively poor. All in all, I had a very wonderful childhood growing up in Moundville, a lovely small town in west Alabama.

Q: How did you come to know the Lord?
A: My sweetheart encouraged me to start going to church with her at the Moundville Baptist Church. I went to Youth Week at Shocco Springs (Baptist Conference Center in Talladega) and was saved that week.

Q: How have you been involved in church through the years?
A: I was ordained to preach by the Moundville Baptist Church immediately after returning from the Army in 1957. I have been in the ministry since then. … My longest period of ministry was at Liberty Hill Baptist Church in Clanton, where I served for 25 years. After my retirement, I was called to pastor Maple Springs Baptist Church, Clanton, where I am currently serving.

Q: What have you gotten from those ministries?
A: I have found meaning and fulfillment in life.

Q: How do you see yourself involved in church in the future?
A: I am now pastor of Maple Springs and hope to serve the Lord with the wonderful people there as long as my health permits.

Q: What does the Christian life mean to you?
A: It is the only life worth living.
