Dawson Memorial Baptist Church, Homewood, celebrated its 100th anniversary April 6. Gary Fenton, who served as pastor of Dawson for more than 25 years before shifting to other ministry-based roles in the area, was the guest preacher. Former staff members were recognized and a special reception was given in their honor.
The celebration continued with a Chapel Choir reunion at 3 p.m. and a special service at 4 p.m. that featured special music by the Chapel Choir and alumni and a viewing of the documentary “Find Us Faithful” that spans the history of the church.
Special guests included Inice Elise Carlisle Tarrant with two of her children, Pitt and Neecie Tarrant, who made the trip from Dothan to attend the premiere of the documentary. Tarrant, who is 95 years old, is featured in the film, sharing her early memories of founding pastor L.O. Dawson. A churchwide picnic was the capstone event of the day and included children’s activities, a “Decades of Dawson” display and entertainment by various church groups. The daylong event concluded at 7 p.m. David Eldridge is the current pastor.
