Dempsey marks 20 years with Montgomery Baptists

Bob Dempsey, Montgomery Baptist Association’s associate director of missions, church growth and development, recently marked 20 years of service with the association.

In 1987, Dempsey was serving as minister of education at Campbellsville Baptist Church in Campbellsville, Ky., when he was asked to submit a resumé for the Montgomery Association’s church development director job by former Director of Missions (DOM) B.C. McGohon. After Dempsey’s hiring, he and McGohon subsequently led more than 30 strategic planning consultations for association churches. Dempsey and current DOM Ken May continue to lead such consultations, providing customized creative resources for congregations throughout the Montgomery area.

Growing up, Dempsey attended Victor Baptist Church, Greer, S.C. He was called to the ministry as an adult while serving as a deacon at Monaghan Baptist Church, Greenville, S.C. He cites both churches as significant influences in his Christian pilgrimage. After surrendering to the call, Dempsey and his wife, Martha, attended and simultaneously earned master of religious education degrees from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. While living in Louisville, Dempsey served as minister of education at Victory Memorial Baptist Church.

The Dempseys have been married for 33 years and are members of Thorington Road Baptist Church, Montgomery. They have twin daughters, Heather and Hannah, 18, recent graduates of Evangel Christian Academy, where Martha Dempsey is a guidance counselor.
