Brookwood Baptist Church, as well as many other Baptist churches in the Birmingham area, is again revisiting the Maracaibo, Venezuela, medical clinic to continue its medical missions work in April or May of 2002.
As there are already many pastors, physicians, dentists, nurses, pharmacists and laypeople who give their time and witness to the Lord through this effort, what the people in Venezuela have responded to most is the kindness through such medical care.
Our church, Brookwood Baptist in Mountain Brook, has been involved in collecting medical/drug samples from many area pharmaceutical company representatives and physicians’ “sample” closets.
We ask for extra, nonprescription pain relievers, basic first-aid supplies or nonexpired medicine. Riley Brice and Cindy McKay, Homewood pharmacists, have been coordinating this effort for years. From recent guidelines given to us from the World Health Organization, expired medicines are no longer allowed through customs into Venezuela.
If readers of The Alabama Baptist know of nonexpired medicines that could be donated to this cause, then it would help greatly in the witness of Christ to thousands of citizens in Venezuela. Please call Brookwood Baptist, 205-967-0441, and ask for Patti Williams or Rosanna Tsivourvakis to arrange for a pickup.
