Former Alabama DOM dies at 84
Luther M. Dorr, longtime professor at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (NOBTS) and Southern Baptist pastor for more than 60 years, died July 18. He was 84.
A resident of Oneonta at the time of his death, Dorr served as director of missions for Washington Baptist Association from 1960 to 1962.
For the last 17 years of his active ministry, he taught preaching to hundreds of seminary students at NOBTS. He was the author of “The Bi-Vocational Pastor” and was a frequent writer for the Southern Baptist Sunday School Board (now LifeWay Christian Resources).
A graduate of Mississippi College in Clinton and NOBTS, Dorr served as pastor of churches in Alabama, Mississippi, Maryland and Virginia through the years. He also was a U.S. Air Force veteran.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Nell; two children; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. (TAB)
