Today’s economic downturn can mean an upturn in your faith as you trust Christ more and hone your financial skills to the maximum.
So what are some ways you can help your dollars go farther?
- Check online stores before wasting time and fuel driving to shops. Almost anything imaginable is sold via websites, and most virtual stores include clearance or outlet sections. Look for tabs with sale-related captions such as “bargains” or “closeout.”
- Organize your errands so you can make one trip rather than several.
- Ignore the full-price and mildly discounted goods and stick to the serious bargains.
- Buy groceries early in the week. Since grocers typically restock for new sales every Wednesday, Mondays and Tuesdays are days you’re more likely to catch markdowns, particularly on meats, baked goods and produce.
- Order groceries through www.AngelFoodMinistries.com. For around $30, you receive enough food to feed a family of four for about a week. Anyone is eligible to participate, and there are pickup points all over Alabama. Choose from a variety of menus and pay online.
- Don’t neglect discount stores. Stores like Big Lots, Dollar General and Dollar Tree have increased their selections of groceries and household cleaning goods.
- Learn to cut hair, especially for the boys in your family.
- Clip coupons. Watch for grocer ads offering double and triple value coupon days.
- Price-match. Wal-Mart and some other stores will match competitors’ sale prices. Instead of running all over to get the best deals, go armed with sales ads to one store that will price-match.
- Clean out closets and sell unneeded items via www.ebay.com or local consignment shops.
- Keep tithing. Giving at least 10 percent of your gross income to your local church positions you for blessings unique to those who honor this command (see Malachi 3:8–12).
God’s people can do more than survive these tough times — they can thrive by following the principles of the Bible.
