Dothan’s Bethel Baptist celebrates 125 years

In a service that celebrated its past while looking forward to the future, Bethel Baptist Church, Dothan, marked its 125th anniversary April 17.

The seven-person anniversary committee said in a letter, “We have a tremendous heritage to praise God for.”

During the morning worship service, the Bethel Baptist choir sang special music and Tim Hall, minister of music for First Baptist Church, Demopolis, led praise and worship. Jerry Grandstaff, director of missions for Columbia Baptist Association, spoke during the service.

The celebration was especially meaningful for lifelong member Morris Stringer, who has been a part of the Bethel family for 77 years. Stringer presented a history of the church during the service which also recognized former pastors. The church bulletin included a brief history of Bethel and photos of former church buildings.

A potluck lunch followed the service. Ricky Plummer is pastor.
