Douglas, Jack Fonville

Jack Fonville Douglas, a retired Alabama Baptist pastor, died March 11. He was 84.

A U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II, Douglas served as pastor of Adger Baptist Church in Mud Creek Baptist Association and Mount Signal Baptist Church, Chelsea, in Shelby Baptist Association and interim pastor of several Alabama Baptist churches. He also founded “His House” Ministries in Birmingham. Douglas’ last position was as a consultant, counselor and lobbyist for Alabama Citizens Action Program (ALCAP), where he worked for 18 years before his retirement in August 1995. While there, Douglas helped develop ALCAP’s educational program and the work with the Alabama Legislature.

He and his wife, Barbara “Bobbie” Douglas, were members of First Baptist Church, Alabaster, in Shelby Association at the time of his death. Along with his wife, Douglas is survived by four children, nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. (TAB)
