The Cross Still Stands
Independent
With the orchestra’s opening notes, a listener can sense that “The Cross Still Stands” is not going to be “just another quartet CD.” In the case of the Down East Boys, this project far exceeds anything that has resulted from their previous forays into a recording studio. To place credit for this on any one item may be prove futile, as there were too many factors in the mix to separate one from another. Suffice it to say that the combination of great songs, producer Wayne Haun, first-rate instrumentation and the stronger-than-ever vocals of the Down East Boys make “The Cross Still Stands” a must-have recording.

Songs of note include the opening track, “Great and Mighty God,” “One Look To His Left,” the current radio single “Mountains Will Be Shaken” and the title tune, “The Cross Still Stands.” There’s also a chill-bump producer in a special “America Medley” that concludes the recording. Cathedral Quartet fans will find themselves picturing the legendary quartet as the Down East Boys perform a Mark Trammell-inspired medley of “Something About That Name” and “What Will You Do For Jesus.” However, the true highlight of this recording is a song titled, “Justified.” With more-than-enough No. 1 potential, this song could easily become the Down East Boys’ biggest song to date.

After hearing a preview of this recording, Singing News Editor Danny Jones said “Finally, a CD that shows how good these guys really are.” That statement has certainly proven to be true — and if this is truly the beginning of what they guys can do, southern gospel music is in for a great time.
