Just Stand
Traditional/Down East Music
After a multiyear stint as a trio, the Down East Boys are once again a quartet. Longtime lead vocalist and manager Ricky Carden made a wise decision to add Stuart Cary as the fourth vocalist, giving this group new life — making the Down East Boys a very solid southern gospel quartet.
On “Just Stand,” you’ll find a mixture of old and new songs, perfectly blended to provide over 31 minutes of southern gospel listening pleasure. It’s die-hard quartet singing from the outset with songs like “I’m Free Again,” “I’m Gonna Make My Getaway,” “I Want to See Jesus” (undoubtedly one of the best versions ever recorded of this classic song), “It’s Still a Thrill” (this one should be in the running as a radio single), “He Threw Up His Hands” (great concept), “I’ve Been Rescued” (more straight-ahead quartet singing), “He Kept Loving Me,” “He Called Me Out” (could be a Top Ten song if properly handled), “He Looked Beyond My Fault” and “Just Stand.”
If you enjoy quartet singing, “Just Stand” is one recording you must add to your collection. And while you’re at it, you might as well add the Down East Boys to your list of favorite quartets — they’re going to be around a long time.
