Duck Springs Baptist marks 175-year anniversary

The toll of the old church bell rung in the 175th anniversary celebration of Duck Springs Baptist Church, Attalla, on April 17.

During the 10:30 a.m. service, former pastors were recognized and Wendell Dutton, Alabama Baptist Historical Commission representative, presented a certificate to the church. Michael Moon, minister of music, sang special music and Edwin Hayes, retired former pastor of First Baptist Church, Cullman, brought the message. Duck Springs Baptist is the home church of Hayes’ wife’s family.

The celebration also included a time for participants to share special memories of Duck Springs Baptist. Each participant received a copy of the church’s history compiled by Mike and Debbie Bailey, Donna and Danny Guest, Elizabeth and Wayne Stephens and others. The group also collected church records from as far back as the 1840s, historical artifacts and pictures to display for the service. There also was a display honoring military veterans from the church.

Pastor Royce Head said it was a “great day.”
