Two years ago, Hurricane Rita left its mark on Sabine Pass, Texas. And recently East Cullman Baptist Association tried to do the same thing — but in a much more positive way.
Since Rita passed through in 2005 and destroyed 116 homes, only four have been rebuilt. Most of the community still live in FEMA trailers, according to Dale Martin, pastor of the local Sabine Pass Christian Fellowship.
The church was hard hit, too, and has met in a trailer since Rita hit. But on a two-week missions trip, a team of 76 from East Cullman Association helped the church make progress in constructing its new building.
By the end of the second week, the team had nearly completed the electrical, plumbing, exterior painting and sheetrock.
During the trip, the team also held Vacation Bible School and a licensed beautician on the team cut and styled women’s hair in the community.
