Twice in one weekend burglars hit Eastside Baptist Church in Birmingham.
The first time was June 27 when they pried open doors on outdoor storage sheds and stole lawn equipment, including lawn mowers, edgers and blowers.
“We filed a police report on it and didn’t think anything more about it,” said Eastside administrative assistant Annette Lake.
June 30 the custodian noticed someone had attempted to pry open file cabinets in the church office area but failed.
The thief or thieves apparently burst a hole in one wall of Pastor Mike Jackson’s office, along which there was a bookcase. The thief or thieves continued their entry scattering books on the floor.
It is believed that entry into the building was gained through a second floor Sunday school room window.
“They had to know what they were getting, because they took the newer computers – a laptop and tower computer and left older computers. A monitor that was attached to the tower computer was also left,” she said, noting a small amount of cash was also taken.
“We are thankful that no one was hurt and we were blessed by that,” Lake said.
Both burglaries are under investigation by the Birmingham Police Department.
