Eight Mile’s Indian Springs Church marks 50 years

Indian Springs Baptist Church, Eight Mile, in Mobile Baptist Association celebrated its 50th year of service and ministry Sept. 20 with about 250 in attendance.

Former and present church members led the morning’s service with personal testimonies of the impact of the church’s ministry, in addition to a history of Indian Springs Baptist’s establishment read by Billy Farnell, whose father, Reese, helped birth a vision for the church’s organization in 1959.

“The history of Indian Springs Baptist Church is the history of the footprints of the Lord Jesus Christ in the lives of His children,” said Charles Couey, pastor since 1970. “More than anything or anyone else, it has been those times of God’s sweet presence ministering to His church that has created and maintained the close fellowship, love for His Word, world vision and heart cry for God that has characterized the church.

Citing Revelations 5:12, Couey added, “He has used people through it all, and for them, we are eternally grateful but to Him and Him alone do we offer this celebration of praise.”
