Eldridge Holt, who served Alabama Baptist churches for more than 50 years as pastor, died Aug. 31. He was 96.
Holt attended The Baptist College of Florida in Graceville, Fla., and earned a certificate in Christian training in 1973 from the Auburn extension campus of Howard College (now Samford University) in Birmingham.
He served as bivocational pastor of his first church located north of Eclectic. Later he served as bivocational pastor of Bethel Baptist Church, Jacksons Gap; Rocky Creek Baptist Church, Alexander City; Eagle Creek Baptist Church, Dadeville; Beulah Baptist Church, Dadeville; Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, Dadeville; Prospect Baptist Church, Eclectic; Antioch Baptist Church, Blountsville; and First Baptist Church, Reeltown, in Notasulga.
Holt was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Hixie, and one son. He is survived by one daughter; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
