In regards to your story “Embezzlement not uncommon, but proactive steps can help prevent” on the front page of The Alabama Baptist on Sept. 5, I am writing to represent those honest, dependable and responsible treasurers/financial secretaries in Alabama Baptist churches. To be placed in a position to handle the finances of a congregation of people is a great honor and one that should not be taken lightly. This position requires confidentiality and integrity. The congregation should be able to trust the person they have placed in that position, referring to the article’s reference to “the person who embezzled was someone the church trusted.” It is a great tragedy that these things occur but the actions of some are not the actions of all.
