Equine Department Helps Dream Come True

Claudia Kendrick, 7, saw her dream come true May 24 when she received the gift of a horse from the Judson College equine program.

Kendrick’s horse, Jack, is a registered Appaloosa originally from Birmingham. His owners, Sally and Kathleen Bowers, had given Jack to Judson.

Michael Brooks, a Judson professor and the Kendrick’s’ pastor at Pine Flat Baptist Church, Suttle, in Cahaba Baptist Association, had mentioned to Jennifer Hoggle, Judson’s equine director, Kendrick’s dream of owning a horse. So when it was time to retire Jack, Hoggle thought of Kendrick.

Judson has placed a number of horses in good homes in their retirement years.

“Some are outright gifts and others are sold, sometimes even at a loss, if it means they’ll be properly cared for. The Bowers agreed with the idea of giving Jack to the Kendricks,” Hoggle said.

“Judson’s equine program was able to make this little girl’s dream a reality while also fulfilling the wishes of the previous owners and ensuring that Jack will have a great retirement,” she said.
