Walter Thweatt recently retired as church development ministries director of Etowah Association after 10 years. Thweatt began his work in ministry as a youth minister at First Church, Ocean Springs, Miss., from 1978 until 1980. He then moved to Alabama to serve as minister of education and youth at First Church, Boaz, and then as minister of education at Twelfth Street Church, Gadsden. In 1996, Thweatt began his service with Etowah Association. An Air Force veteran, he graduated from New Orleans Seminary in 1980. Thweatt and his wife, Pat, have a daughter, Kim, who is married to Tom Smedley, and a son, John, who is married to Kimberly and is pastor of First Church, Pell City. The Thweatts also have four granddaughters — Hannah, Holly, Hope and Kimberly Joy. Gary Cardwell is director of missions.
