Evangelical Christians attacked by Christians

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia — Christians fought against Christians during a mob attack July 21. Voice of the Martyrs (VOM) reported that a mob organized by Ethiopian Orthodox leaders attacked hundreds of evangelical Christians in the Ethiopian town of Merhawe.

At least one person died and several others were wounded in the attack. Evangelicals have also been forced to leave their homes and seek shelter in a church and hospital in the town of Bahir Dar. A VOM contact near the conflict said, “This massive attack is a clear indication of the situation facing evangelical Christians [in Ethiopia] and the potential danger which might burst any time in every city.”
