Evangelism tips for pastors, churches and individuals

• Anytime you can find an initiative like [ONE Focus] that causes people to get out of their comfort zone and to mobilize to do the work God’s called us to do, you’re doing something right. (Steve Loggins, director of missions, North Jefferson Baptist Association)

• For events, always make them evangelistic. Regardless of why people came, they get to hear the gospel once they get there. (Roy Hill, pastor, First Baptist Church, Satsuma)

• The biggest thing is, no matter the size of your church, you can do attractional events. We’re small, only about 50 on a Sunday and not a huge budget, but you can do events and not break the bank. If you don’t feel like you have enough people or resources, there are other churches that will be glad to help out. The Great Commission tells us to love God and love people, and that’s not hard to do with an attractional event. (Tommy Strickland, pastor, Five Points Baptist Church, Sylacauga)

• Look for people you don’t know in the sanctuary who are visiting, and look at who is sitting next to them. Ask your members if they met the visitors and know how to get in touch with them. (Jason Dunlap, pastor, Sharon Heights Baptist Church, Brookside)

• The old stuff (like going door to door and crusades) still works; we just don’t do it anymore. (Dunlap)

• Offer all kinds of training (for your members), even if you only have five people show up. Offer a one-day training or a discipleship course — just give them the opportunity to come. Many people are scared to share their faith but they’ll come and learn and the next thing you know, (those same people) are out sharing and God’s blessing it. (Dunlap)
