Thomas Wright recently retired as executive director of missions for Mobile Baptist Association after serving 20 years in this position.
He began his ministry serving with IMB and NAMB as a journeyman and church planter. Fluent in Laotian and Thai, Wright was founding pastor of First Laotian Baptist Church, Fort Worth, Texas; and Saginaw Laotian Mission, in Texas, during his time at Southwestern Seminary where he earned his master of divinity and doctor of philosophy degrees. He is a graduate of Shorter College, Rome, Georgia, with additional studies at Baylor University and Fuller Theological Seminary, Houston, Texas.
He also served as an adjunct professor of missions/evangelism at Liberty Baptist College, Southeastern and New Orleans Baptist seminaries. He is the author of three books and numerous articles for training and spiritual growth. He and his wife, Donna, have two adult children. He is currently teaching classes for Samford’s MTI extension in Mobile.
When asked about his future plans, Wright said he and Donna will be working as a team with IMB to teach internationally as openings arise. Their first assignment in the fall of 2025 will be teaching at the seminary in Uganda. James Mercer is serving as interim DOM for Mobile Association.
