Faculty and Staff Members Receive Megginson Awards

UM faculty and staff members received special recognition for contributions to their professions April 28 during the annual faculty and staff spring luncheon.

Lonnie Burnett, associate professor of history, received the Mitford Ray Megginson Research Award for his involvement in research activities related to John Forsyth, former editor of the Mobile Register, now the Press-Register. Burnett has written a book about Forsyth titled “The Pen Makes a Good Sword: John Forsyth of the Mobile Register” to be published in September 2006.

Mike Jacobs, head baseball coach, received the Emma Frances Megginson Service Award. This award is presented to a full-time employee who exhibits excellence in promoting the philosophy of the university, performing responsibilities, and contributing to campus and community life.
