The Oct. 24 issue of The Alabama Baptist printed the story of Jerry Falwell’s insult and subsequent apology regarding the prophet Mohammed. His public remarks evidently led to a riot and five deaths in India. As a Christian, I believe Islam to be a false religion, and Mohammed to be a false prophet, to state otherwise would be an affront to God, to remain silent would be a sin of omission. Such beliefs foment some in the Islam world to the point of wanting to silence by death any who would dare to be critical of their faith, yet it is apparently all right for a Muslim to insult Christ by saying that He was and is a liar, and not the Son of God and not the only way to heaven. Jesus said that one knows a tree by the fruit it bears. He also said that Satan was a liar and a murderer from the beginning. Reverend Falwell was not the instigator of the riot, nor was he the cause of the subsequent deaths and he should not have apologized. He should have rested his case because the evidence is clear for all to see.
