She currently practices with Sparks & Favor, P.C., at Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham. A graduate of Judson College in Marion, Favor served as the school’s chairwoman of the board for the past three years.
Q: What led you to become a physician?
A: I grew up in Hayneville and was taught at a young age by my parents the importance of having a deep faith in God. I never dreamed I’d be a physician. But I had the opportunity to attend Judson on a tennis scholarship, and I learned to seek not just a career but rather God’s calling for my life. Because of my professors’ caring attitude, I realized that I had the potential to become a physician.
Q: What does this career demand?
A: You drive into the hospital at 2 a.m. and wonder, “Why am I doing this?” Then the baby is born and it’s exhilarating. It’s the best feeling in the world to be able to experience God’s miracle of a new life.
Q: What do you get from this career?
A: It’s a privilege to use my God-given abilities in such a fulfilling profession to help others. I think being able to meet people’s physical needs often allows me to minister to them spiritually.
Q: How do others support you?
A: My family and friends always encourage me to seek God’s will in my life and to know that I can always do anything with God’s help. It’s sometimes a very challenging job, and it is a blessing to have four partners (in my practice) who share a deep Christian faith in God.
Q: What difference has this ministry made for you?
A: I’ll always be grateful to Alabama Baptists for making possible my Christian higher education that’s made such a difference in my life. Being a physician has brought me closer to God, forced me to rely even more on God and deepened my prayer life. This profession really shows me “He’s got the whole world in His hands.”
