First Baptist Church, Arab, marked its 100th anniversary with a celebratory weekend. On Sept. 22 the church held a picnic in its fellowship hall during which Marshall County’s state Sen. Clay Scofield spoke and Alabama Baptist Historical Commission representative Pat Musselwhite presented a plaque to the church.
Keith Hibbs, director of the office of worship leadership and church music for the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions, led music for the Sept. 23 morning worship service. Chuck Kelley, president of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, gave the message. He spoke from First, Arab’s, original pulpit, which was made by the church’s founding pastor. His message called the church members to look back and remember God’s faithfulness, but also to look forward to the work of God in the church’s future.
The church also baptized five young people that day.
After the service the church held a lunch for all attendees. “It was tremendous fellowship,” Pastor Paul Murphy said.
The church held a concert featuring Larnelle Harris for its evening service.
