FBC Enterprise thanks pastor with scholarship funds

Lance Hogan, pastor of First Baptist Church, Enterprise, worked hard to get local children taken care of following a March 1 tornado that ripped through the community. He quickly assembled a group of volunteer teachers to run a day-care program at the Coffee Baptist Association church for the children displaced from their damaged elementary school.

He gave countless hours to the cause. So the church and community decided to show their appreciation by giving something back. Volunteer workers, parents of the children and church members gave donations totaling $1,700 to a scholarship fund in memory of Hogan’s son, Jesse, who died soon after his birth in 1996.

“It was very sweet that they did that — it touched us very deeply,” Hogan said. The fund, set up through The Baptist Foundation of Alabama, provides college scholarships for qualifying students of churches Hogan has served since Jesse’s death.
