FBC Gu-Win marks 50 years with homecoming

Paired with its homecoming celebration, First Baptist Church, Gu-Win, in Marion Baptist Association also commemorated its 50th anniversary.

The event was held July 8 with morning worship, afternoon lunch and songs by southern gospel group The Masters Quartet.

Terry Dillard, secretary and treasurer for First, Gu-Win, said the services were well attended and it was a good day for the church.

“We had about double in church than what we have on a regular Sunday,” Dillard said about the estimated 80 people who joined them that Sunday. “We also had two of the original charter members for the church in attendance.”

The church received a plaque from the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission.

Pastor Tommy Roberts said he has felt extremely blessed during his almost four years as pastor of the church.

“My hopes are that things continue to get better for the church and we continue to grow in the future,” Roberts said. Two people were saved at the event, he added.

Dillard said he felt everyone enjoyed the event as well as the special music from The Masters Quartet.

“I feel at this time our church is in unity, in one accord and in a great peaceful harmony,” Roberts said.
