FBC Holly Pond marks 125 years with faith decision

Many exciting things happened Oct. 24 as First Baptist Church, Holly Pond, celebrated its 125th anniversary, but the highlight of the day was one woman’s profession of faith.

“The success of the event was a result of letting God take charge of the planning, a process that had been ongoing for a year,” said Robin Henderson, anniversary coordinator and master of ceremonies.

There were many in the crowd of more than 300 at the East Cullman Baptist Association church who helped make the day special.

Ann Watts, former president of the Woman’s Missionary Union of the Georgia Baptist Convention, served as guest organist, and Eddie Card, former minister of music and youth director for First, Holly Pond, returned to serve as guest music director.

Dan Scott, president of the Holly Pond Historical Society; Melanie Metz of the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission; Randy Makemson, director of missions for East Cullman Association; and Rick Lance, executive director of the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions, presented the church with plaques. Pastor Benjamin Smothers gave the morning message.

The church also did its own presentations, giving certificates of appreciation to former pastors and the families of former pastors who were in attendance and giving a donation to the disaster relief team of Limestone Baptist Association.

Members of Limestone Association’s disaster relief team prepared and served lunch for the church following the service.

“God is pleased with us today because the event was focused on God receiving all the glory and praise for what has happened in the church for the past 125 years,” Henderson said.
