Every Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. friends gather at First Baptist Church Huntsville for Oasis, a community day respite care ministry for those living with dementia.
Oasis director and church member Greg Ellison describes it as “personal and intentional … not a day care.”

With one-on-one attention and care, all involved find themselves fully invested in each aspect of the day — and looking forward to when they can do it again, Ellison said.
While FBC Huntsville senior pastor Travis Collins gave the go-ahead for the new ministry, which launched March 11, he gives credit for the idea and overall organization to Allan Greer, minister to experienced adults.
Obvious decision
After researching the idea, Greer and those helping him decide moved quickly from “Should we do this?” to “Why are we not doing this?”
