Seventy-two vehicles lined Jemison High School’s parking lot May 19 for the Restored Classic car, truck and motorcycle show, sponsored by First Baptist Church, Jemison, in Chilton Baptist Association and the school’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes. The event attracted about 350 people from the area and from surrounding counties. It featured awards for participants and door prizes and New Testament Bibles for attendees.
Using two identical antique cars — one restored and one in need of repair — Marc Merritt, an associate in the evangelism office for the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions, delivered an evangelistic sermon describing how Jesus Christ restores lives destroyed by sin.
During the event, First, Jemison, volunteers served food and refreshments, raising more than $400 in donations for a recent youth missions project. “We saw this as a mission to have fellowship with our community and to give out information about our church and our Lord,” said Pastor Chuck Bass. “I was very pleased with how everything went. … The people worked hard and God blessed.”
Bass, an antique car enthusiast, hopes to continue this ministry in the future.
