The first through sixth grade children’s ministry at First Baptist Church, Opelika, has seen “significant numerical and spiritual growth” since Kathy King, minister to children, has been serving the church.
King, who came on staff in January 1993, retired from her position Aug. 31.
She earned a bachelor’s degree from Auburn University and completed a program in children’s ministry through New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.
King has served alongside her husband, Mike, who is the church’s executive pastor.
Mike King said of his ministry partner and wife, “God has used her to touch the lives of so many children and their families. … And during her ministry she has established herself as a leader among leaders.”
She served through the Alabama Preschool and Children’s Ministers Organization in several leadership positions, including two terms as president. She also mentored 18 ministry interns throughout her time at First, Opelika.
Kathy King also contributed to a children’s ministry leadership book, “Kidmin Leadership,” by Jim Wideman.
She and her husband have two children and three grandchildren.
