FBC Roanoke attendance spikes after visitation push

A recent six-week visitation program resulted in about a 40 percent attendance increase for First Baptist Church, Roanoke, in Randolph Baptist Association Oct. 29, according to Pastor Phil Russell.

The visitation program package, a resource available from the Church Growth Institute, sent church members scouring their neighborhoods and students poring over their school yearbooks for unchurched friends who might be prospects. After building a prospect list, they made 331 visits in six weeks, an effort that brought 55 visitors to Friend Day.

"Attendance has been up since then — several have begun to come regularly to Sunday School and church as a result," Russell said. "This (visitation and high attendance Sunday) creates excitement and encourages our folks, which is wonderful, because we can’t let up — we have to keep going after it (reaching the unchurched)."
