Seeking to express its “sincere appreciation to the leaders and public servants of the city of Spanish Fort,” First Baptist Church, Spanish Fort, in Baldwin Baptist Association hosted Community Appreciation Sunday on March 22.
Pastor Franklin Kirksey called it “a golden opportunity” to reach out to the community.
“An event of this sort can provide a biblical explanation of the relationship of the Christian and the church to civil government,” he said.
Acting on a church member’s suggestion, the congregation of First, Spanish Fort, set out to let its community leaders know how much they were appreciated. A letter was sent to the mayor inviting City Council members, police officers, firefighters and other public servants to the church for a service tailored specifically to them from the music, sermon and prayer to a special welcome, presentation and meal.
“Recently a magazine that tracks economic development projects nationwide named Baldwin County 2008’s second most successful nonmetro area at growing and attracting business. … We felt the public servants should be recognized and encouraged,” Kirksey said.
