First Baptist Church, Pell City, on mission

Four people from First Baptist Church, Pell City, in St. Clair Baptist Association; Meadowbrook Baptist Church, Gadsden; and CrossPoint Community Church, Gadsden, both in Etowah Baptist Association, traveled to India with Tom Cox World Ministries for missions work Jan. 28–Feb. 14.

The missions volunteers were trained by an eye doctor to organize medical clinics and conduct eye exams. They also fit people for glasses, and a nurse treated minor aches, pains, cuts and bruises.

The volunteers also led worship services and witnessed through recreation. First, Pell City, member Ali Richard used an EvangeBall to gather children for a game of soccer after school. After playing, she would share the plan of salvation with them using the sinner’s prayer represented on the soccer ball.

“The best part of the trip was the look on the people’s faces when they saw the picture of God dying on the cross,” Richard said. “Their eyes were huge and their mouths were wide open. It was just neat to see that reaction when we come from a place where we have so many churches and see that image all the time.”
