Eleven members of First Baptist Church, Sulligent, and four from Fellowship Baptist Church, Vernon, both in Lamar Baptist Association, traveled to Guatemala City and Esquintla, Guatemala, July 16–23 for a missions trip.
The group joined six people from two Venezuelan churches — Missionary Baptist Church of Anaco and Following Jesus Baptist Church of Barcelona — to partner with Guatemalan churches to do Vacation Bible School, door-to-door evangelism, sports evangelism and public- and private-school testimonies. First, Sulligent, had previously worked with the Venezuelan churches on missions trips, and those churches were strong enough to send its people to do missions work in Guatemala. Sam McKay, former director of missions for Lamar Association, also went on the trip.
