With the theme “Jesus Christ: The same yesterday, today and forever,” First Baptist Church, Winfield, celebrated its 125-year anniversary Oct. 5.
The 9 a.m. service featured special music by the church’s choir and its quartet, 4 for One. Former pastors Charles Ballew, Ken Anderson and Don Graham each brought one part of the three-part message focusing on the “yesterday, today and forever” theme. Current pastor Paul Murphy served as the master of ceremonies for the day.
Also during the service Alabama Baptist Historical Commission representative Angie Cooper presented a commemorative certificate to the church. Dinner on the grounds immediately followed. Large historical displays were set up in the fellowship hall for the more than 500 participants to enjoy.
Jill Hawkins, secretary of the Marion Baptist Association church, said, “We were bursting at the seams but it was a really good time.”
